International Environmental Law

The course introduces students to international environmental law and considers how international law may be used to facilitate environmental protection. It analyzes specificities of this area of international law, how it relates to other areas and what are its peculiar characteristics. It discusses the history, development, sources and principles of international environmental law. Next part of the course focuses on key areas and issues such as atmospheric pollution, marine environment, biological diversity etc., in order to see how the principles and norms of environmental law are put in practice. During the short course, practical examples and case-studies will be used in order to enable students to analyze means, methods and results of implementation of environmental law.
